World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to increase the gear score of an item up to 700 and add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln.
Certain items can be upp'd to benefit from their unique stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, including attack damage, crit chance and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also have a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. In addition there are many weapons with a set bonus which is activated when three or more of the same weapon are equipped on a unit. This bonus can sometimes be more than the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity and level. For example, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while a +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue increase until it requires a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one.
The upgrade of weapons can also change their base stats. This is usually a positive thing, but it can also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items impossible to use, unless you are very lucky.
Armor items can also be upgraded to boost their effectiveness. In the case of chests or helms, this will increase the defense of its base, while gloves and belts improve their required strength and dexterity. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it may reduce its value.
The upgrade template for a weapon displays the new stats it will get when upgraded and their relative values. This means that an upgrade from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving an attack damage of 3. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 times less often, since it is an absolute number.
Rerolling a weapon is also possible by pressing the green button on the item menu with the arrows that are circling. This will reroll an item and alter its stats but not reset the weapon's level or connect it to an account's status.
Armor
A few upgrades to your armor can make all the difference to your survivability. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE boosts to poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, which can make the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. In general, the greater defense you have on your character, the greater health you can get from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.
To improve your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four in total, and each requires you to complete a unique side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest, and the corresponding fountains, you'll have the option of talking to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.
The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For instance the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a large group of enemies in the majority of cold conditions, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to withstand an entire raid with a few friends.
It's important to note that armor cannot be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll have to work on upgrading it to gain physical strength if you're a Warrior or Spell Power if you're Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you use to fight the final boss, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town and you will be able to unlock perks for your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game. For instance the Longsword or Battleaxe. However, it's beneficial to have a few upgrades to the armor on your chest and helmets so that you can escape some monsters.
Potions
Potions are substances in bottles that, when consumed, give the player a temporary status effect. There are five kinds of potions that have different effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded, increasing the effectiveness of their effects. Alternatively the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding redstone or glowstone dust the potions.
Potion upgrades require a certain amount XP. This can be earned by crafting them on a table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The price of upgrades varies based on the type of potion as well as the item's Rarity and Mark Level.

To upgrade a potion, click right on it in your inventory and select the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open an GUI which allows you to select the potions that you want to upgrade and the amount of experience they'll offer when upgraded. The upgrade of potions can be completed in batches of up to five at a time, and the XP that they generate will be added to your current XP level.
Once upgrade item has been upgraded, it will not be degraded until you use it again, or break the bottle it's stored in. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will allow you to change the name of the potion.
There were some changes to the mechanics of potion in version 1.7.2. For example, splash potions now have a duration of 0:08 (this is not the equivalent of 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display for the item). The table for potion can now be made using four Wood Planks and two Glass. This allows it to be used by players playing Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons, unlike Java Edition. The same applies to the use of a potion in an empty cauldron. This will draw out the potion, and refill the bottle.
Lastly, there are now lingering potions that are brewed with dragon breath and splash potions. Redstone can be added to lingering potions to extend their effect. The potion table is now organized more closely to the Java Edition, and new potions were added, such as the potion of leaping and the decomposition potion, as well as turtle master potions.
Trinkets
A trinket could be a small, inexpensive ornament or piece jewelry. It could also refer to a piece of art or a decoration that serves a function but is not particularly important such as a tiny thimble. In certain traditions, trinkets are used to symbolize affection or friendship, particularly between family members.
Players can upgrade trinkets in addition to weapons or armor, as well as potions. These can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Unlike other item upgrades trinkets, trinkets can be swapped out at will without losing their stats.
Upgrade vendors are located at the capitals of every zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrades to trinkets are a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new one. It is possible to upgrade players for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket has the same base level as the old trinket but will also have an additional 1% bonus upgrade.
Once the old Trinkets have become no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value over time. They can be traded between players, making them an alternative to gold.
In general players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually means the best-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries and then other pieces of gear that they won't replace soon (for example, a ring or cloak). When deciding on which items to upgrade, players must also be aware of the class's preferred stats. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for a tank player and they want to upgrade their helm, chest and shoulders.
Trinkets can be re-upgraded to a higher ilvl after they are no longer useful and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional 1% upgrade bonus. A re-upgrade, however, will destroy the trinket unless it can be saved using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, but is still cheaper than purchasing the new one.
